PART I
BEDFORD TO
SOHO SQUARE
Arriving at Bedford Square in the heart of London City!
The theme of our trip was the changing geography of London. Because many of London's streets are the same as they were in 1799. And yet, smaller streets have completely dissapeared, making way for bigger roadways, such as Charring Cross.
Local business people gather outside of pubs after work.
In our first few days in London, we examined the City of Westminster, which includes Soho Square. In the 18th century this town possessed many bohemian qualities, and is where craftsmen and their families lived...
families such as that of the young writer and printer, William Blake.
One of the many places William Blake lived! This is in Soho Square.
English Prof. Saree Makdisi gathers students in Soho Square to show us on a 19th century map what surrounded Soho Square.
A view of the narrow street ways.
